SEGi University Launches APEL Centre: A Flexible Pathway for Working Adults (Training News Malaysia)

|

Training news Malaysia: SEGi University & Colleges has recently launched the SEGi APEL Centre, offering flexible programmes to cater to the academic needs of working adults. The Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) offers three formats to bridge the gap between working experience and qualifications, making higher education accessible and affordable.

Interview with Stella Lau, Managing Director of SEGi University & Colleges

Stella Lau, Managing Director of SEGi University & Colleges, shared that the job market has become more competitive due to globalisation and digitalisation. The Department of Statistics Malaysia revealed that the country’s unemployment rate has increased from 4.8% in 2021 to 5.4% in 2022, leading to many adults giving up on furthering their studies due to a lack of time and insufficient prior qualifications. Hence, SEGi saw the opportunity to offer programmes that are truly accessible to adult learners through APEL.

Three Benefits of APEL

APEL.A provides access for those who did not meet the traditional entry requirement to a programme. APEL.C suits busy working adults who cannot commit to a full-fledged degree programme, enabling them to use prior work experience to enter a specific course or module relevant to their career. Meanwhile, APEL.Q enables kindergarten teachers to use their work experience to convert into a Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a Degree in Education.

Expansion of SEGi’s Adult Learning Programme

APEL has inspired the expansion of SEGi’s Adult Learning Programme covering various fields of study, including Business, Engineering, IT, Hospitality and Education. SEGi’s adult learners will have the opportunity to be mentored by academics who are industry experts, optimising their learning experience and reaching higher in their KPIs, deliverables, and business objectives.

The SEGi APEL Centre offers adult learners the opportunity to access affordable, quality education via flexible programmes that cater to their academic needs. The launch of this centre shows SEGi’s commitment to offering innovative and accessible educational programmes for eager minds and natural talents.

SEGi University & Colleges is a leading group of higher education institutions in Malaysia with 46 years of achieved excellence. It was founded in 1977 and has since expanded to five main campuses located in Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang, and Sarawak.

SEGi offers a wide range of academic programmes at the diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, covering various fields of study including business, engineering, IT, hospitality, and education. The institution is committed to delivering affordable, quality education to eager minds and natural talents, and it continually strives to offer programmes that are truly accessible to adult learners through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

SEGi’s APEL Centre is designed to cater specifically to the academic needs of working adults by offering flexible programmes that can be customized to fit their schedules and financial situations. APEL recognises prior learning and working experiences as an alternative means to obtain higher education qualifications, and it comes in three formats: APEL.A, APEL.C, and APEL.Q.

Apart from its academic programmes, SEGi also offers various extracurricular activities and events to help students develop their soft skills and prepare for their future careers. These include sports clubs, arts and culture clubs, and community service clubs.

SEGi is also dedicated to promoting cultural exchange and enhancing understanding between nations through various initiatives, such as the Malaysia-China Intervarsity Chinese Debate Competition.

Overall, SEGi University & Colleges is a reputable institution that provides high-quality education and opportunities for personal growth and development to its students.
